NSPS Surveying USA (this PDF has links to more info)
On Saturday, March 19, 2011, to kickoff National Surveyor’s Week, NSPS is organizing a simultaneous occupation of survey control monuments across the entire country. We are hoping for and asking for your participation.
The idea is twofold: We plan to occupy points with some public visibility to generate publicity for the surveying profession; And, we plan to submit all of the simultaneously collected data to NGS for their analysis. It has also been mentioned that we might be eligible for inclusion in the Guinness Book of Records if we get sufficient participation.
It is hoped to include at least one party (one monument) from each chapter, so that we have good statewide coverage. More is better! It is sure to be fun, educational and productive!
The plan is for everyone in Washington to begin occupation at 10 AM PDT, and remain on station for 4 hours. In the meantime, we will chat with passersby, answer questions, and take pictures, etc. Signs or banners may be provided, if we can generate a budget, and/or attract donations.
